You will notice that in this service Porsche do not include replacement of engine oil, engine oil filter or even checking of suspension items, brake friction component measurements or condition.

Here are some common sense additions to the Porsche Boxster service schedule for the minor service which I and many specialists (or even main dealer technicians I speak to) strongly recommend.

Recommended additions to the minor service.
Engine Drain engine oil, replace oil filter element, replace engine oil drain plug seal, refill with fresh engine oil. May help avoid costly engine failures, especially variable cam unit failures.
Exhaust system Check condition of exhaust system. Particular attention for leaks, damage and corrosion including loose or rusted heat shields (particular problem with Boxsters)
Suspension system Check for : Cracked or soft suspension bushes, broken coil springs, leaking shock absorbers, excessive movement in ball joints or bushes.
Brake system Check for: Brake disk and pad wear approaching lower wear limit. Also check for pitted or corroded brake disks.
Convertible top Check for smooth operation, function of micro switches and clear flowing water drain holes.
Cooling system Check for condensation above coolant cap or other signs of leaking from cap. Also check revision of cooling cap design from part number. Also check operation of cooling fans.
Diagnostic system Check operation of MAF sensor with computerised diagnostic equipment.
Emissions Check exhaust gas emissions such as CO %, Hydrocarbon parts per million for correct operation of engine management and catalytic converters.
These items are listed on the basis of experience of Boxster problems and how early diagnosis of problems can save long term costs and avoid breakdowns or reliability issues.
